Walk the trails of the Forest Park or the Bibbulmun Track and identify trees and plants of the karri forest this winter.
Heathland wildflowers, although in extra abundance in the spring, can be found in Northcliffe all year.
Northcliffe is situated 360 km south of Perth - 27 km from the coast at Windy Harbour. Northcliffe is a small rural town with a population of 600 people and is the gateway to the D'Entrecasteaux and Shannon National Parks. The Visitor Centre abounds in history and culture.
Dairy and beef farming have supported the town for nearly a century. Fifty tobacco farms were developed for ex-servicemen; this made a considerable impact on Northcliffe. The timber industry became a significant source of employment, and more recently grapes, marron, olives, avocados, truffles, green tea and berries!
Opposite the visitor centre is the George Gardner Interpretive Centre and Northclliffe Pioneer Settlement Museum. It houses an Aboriginal interpretive centre featuring the Bibbulmun tribe, a comprehensive photographic wildflower catalogue, group settlement museum, period schoolroom and a rock and mineral collection.
Just five minutes drive from the Visitor Centre is Bannister Downs Dairy Farm and Kitchen Table Restaurant, open Thursday and Friday for lunch. Here you can watch the cows being milked from a viewing platform within a state of the art, architecturally designed building.
